Katherine McDonald

Katherine McDonald was the first Executive Director of Action Canada for Population and Development (ACPD, now part of Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights) from 1997 until her retirement in 2010. 

For more than forty years, since becoming a single mother in her teens, Katherine has been an advocate in the reproductive and sexual health and rights field and an activist in the area of women’s rights, working at the provincial, national and international level. Before joining ACPD, Katherine practiced law for ten years, going on to become the Executive Director of the Public Legal Education Society of Nova Scotia, and the President of the Nova Scotia Advisory Council on the Status of Women. She is a Past President of Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada, and a former member of the regional and international governing bodies of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). Katherine holds a law degree from Dalhousie University (1981) and a Masters of Law degree from the University of Ottawa (2007).
