Program Officer: Nutrition

Location: Hanoi, Vietnam Time Frame: 6 months. Flexible start date, but the sooner the better. Position Type: Internships Status: Contract

Project description:   

The intern will work with HealthBridge Vietnam’s (HBV) Nutrition and Food Security program team, which aims to improve the health, nutrition and food security of vulnerable populations in Vietnam. More specifically, the internship will support HBV to collaborate with other Non- Government Organizations (NGO) working on nutrition to conduct a needs assessment and establish a Nutrition Civil Social Organization (CSO) alliance in Vietnam. 

The position will be based in Hanoi Vietnam, with occasional travel to field sites. 

Position description:     

The intern will: 

  • Work with the Project Manager to conduct a needs assessment on a nutrition CSO alliance. It will be completed in collaboration with selected international and local NGOs working on nutrition; relevant government agencies and United Nations (UN) agencies. 
  • Under the guidance of the Project Manager, develop a Terms of Reference for the Nutrition CSO alliance.
  • Map out current nutrition projects being implemented in Vietnam.
  • Develop a bank of nutrition communication materials.
  • Support the Project Manager to develop funding proposals to support the alliance. Funding sources may include the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement Fund and other funders and partners.

Qualifications:  

  • Graduate degree in international development, public health, nutrition, or a related field. 
  • Knowledge about nutrition, food security and gender. Previous direct experience in one of these fields is an asset.
  • Strong communication, collaboration and networking skills, including the ability to write for a variety of audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including tact and cultural sensitivity.
  • Experience in advocacy and working with NGOs is an asset.
  • Flexible and open to working in different environments. Previous cross-cultural experience is an asset.
  • Excellent English-language communication skills. Knowledge of Vietnamese is an asset. 

Host organization: 

HealthBridge Vietnam is the local implementation office of HealthBridge Foundation of Canada. Established in 1995, the organization works on issues such as HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, tobacco control and nutrition.
