### Summary

Local public markets are important for the livelihood of traders and small local retail businesses. Local public markets are hospitable for small traders, especially when compared to shopping centres that favour larger businesses. In addition, as more and more women enter the paid workforce, the existence of markets close to home has been a major benefit as they juggle their daily responsibilities as workers and primary carers for families.
