The parallel complaint to the children’s cry of boredom, as discussed in the previous blog, is the mother’s complaint of fatigue. The causes are many, but one is the need to chauffeur children to various: school, sports, tutoring, extra classes, friends’ homes…. If children could walk, cycle, and take public transit on their own, then mothers (and sometimes fathers) could have vastly more time for themselves. I wish we could recruit people who work on gender equality to become involved in promoting liveable cities as well. In addition to all their other advantages, liveable cities could make the lives of urban women vastly easier and less tiring!
