In October, HealthBridge celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Pham Thi Hoang Anh as country director of our Vietnam office.
HealthBridge Executive Director Sian FitzGerald paid tribute to Hoang Anh: “She has the unique mix of skills and the right personality to lead a small and innovative NGO in Vietnam. She is thoughtful, creative and intelligent, which helps her to design and support smart initiatives. She has integrity and savvy, which ensures that she is always respectful of the people we work with, from hill tribe minority women, to high level government officials.”
Added Sian: “Hoang Anh is deeply caring about the people around her, including staff and partners, and she takes care to do the right thing. She thinks strategically, and practically. The credibility and impact of HealthBridge Vietnam is a testament to her commitment and efforts.”
"Thoughtful, creative and intelligent"
Hoang Anh joined HealthBridge in January 2004 as director of the Mainstreaming Tobacco Control in Vietnam project. She became country director in October 2006. Before joining HealthBridge, she was a leading epidemiologist for more than 20 years at the National Cancer Hospital in Hanoi.
Being country director has been “challenging but also very enjoyable,” says Hoang Anh. “I've had the chance to work with great young people. They are very smart, creative, dynamic, supportive and very friendly, which helps to create an attractive and enjoyable working environment in the HealthBridge Office.”
“I have also enjoyed working with colleagues in the Ottawa office. They are always very nice, understanding and supportive. From this experience, it seems to me that there is not much difference between people from different cultures. I've also always felt very comfortable sharing my thoughts and opinions with the executive director.”
