Life is full of happy coincidences. For example, many people find cycling to be an enjoyable activity; it also happens to be a great form of exercise and transport. Exercise is vital for health, but it also helps make people feel and look better. A meal that contains a variety of natural colours not only looks more appealing, but is also much healthier than one that has few if any colours. With all of life’s complications, it also helps to have some simple rules. Learning about nutrition can be time-consuming, but an important shortcut is to eat differently coloured foods, which tend to contain different nutrients. Whole grains, various beans and lentils, and a wide array of fruits and vegetables, can offer an attractive, tasty, and super-healthy meal. If you can shop for them in a farmer’s or other local market rather than a supermarket, so much the better. There is a healthy politics to spending your money in a way that benefits the local community rather than a distant wealthy businessman, and for some at least, the more chaotic nature of a market is far more enjoyable to the senses than the sterile orderliness of a supermarket…which is yet another happy coincidence!
