A colleague recently made her third visit to Dhaka. This time she arrived with milk for her tea. When we asked her why she had brought it with her, she explained that the experience of crossing the street to buy it locally was too terrifying. One time crossing the street she had leapt to the median to avoid being hit by a bus, only to be snagged by the barbed wire that officials had ‘helpfully’ placed there to prevent people from crossing...wire that is nearly invisible in daylight.
