How many times has a woman with a young baby explained that she is not working, meaning she has no formal job? I can hardly imagine a more time-consuming, exhausting, and important job than raising a child or caring for someone else who needs loving attention. In order to raise attention to the importance and value of women’s work in and around the home, HealthBridge has supported partners in several countries to conduct research on the topic and to calculate an estimated value of that work. In honour of International Women’s Day, Work for a Better Bangladesh (WBB Trust) is releasing its Bengali version of their updated research tomorrow (9 March). WBB hopes that the launch will lead to the formation of an advocacy group to work towards some of the report’s recommendations, including more formal recognition of the value of caring for others, and efforts to involve men in household work. The various studies, including the updated Bangladesh report, are available here: http://www.healthbridge.ca/healthbridge_publications.html#GenderPublications
