Debra plays a public speaking game with interns.

One of the most rewarding parts of my job these days is working with interns from various universities here in Bangladesh. They come in with fresh ideas and questions, full of energy and creativity. They are eager to learn and to gain new skills. Some of them gain additional pleasure in challenging me, which I also enjoy!

It’s hard to find time in our busy schedules to train the new generation, but the responsibility to make the future work lies with today’s youth. My idea is to give them an opportunity to learn new skills by trying different things: writing articles, speaking on live radio shows, organizing demonstrations, planning seminars, organizing parklets (small parks where there would otherwise be parked cars), and making videos.

Along with all the work is the message that doing good work for our country can also be a lot of fun. I’m grateful to HealthBridge for all the opportunities they’ve given me over the past 22 years (!!) and eager to extend that opportunity to others. As further motivation for my interns, I plan to post a few more guest blogs from them. I hope you’ll enjoy!
