Cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and other 'nicotine-yielding products' should be taxed differently based on their level of risk, says a recent article in The New England Journal of Medicine, co-authored by HealthBridge Board Member Emeritus, David Sweanor .
Such a move could hasten reductions in cigarette use and, ultimately, the disease and deaths it causes, argues the article: 'Differential Taxes for Differential Risks — Toward Reduced Harm from Nicotine-Yielding Products'.
