We’ve all heard that energy saving light bulbs can greatly reduce our electricity bill and thus contribute to the health of the planet. But other lifestyle changes, made possible by improvements in urban planning, could have vastly greater impacts. According to one estimate, a change in all our light bulbs saves as much energy in a year as moving to a walkable city would save in just one week. Of course we shouldn’t have to move; we should have better designed cities and more supportive transport policies, which is what HealthBridge is helping its partners to try to achieve. By burning less fuel and more calories, we would benefit our own health as well as that of the planet.
