Description

Beginning in 2021, HealthBridge Vietnam has been supporting the Global Designing Cities Initiatives in working with the local governments of Ha Noi and Da Nang city and the national government to:

  • Improve urban transportation, street design, and traffic safety by focusing on high-risk areas such as dangerous roads and intersections.
  • Improve understanding of sustainable urban transportation, street design, and road safety among policymakers, decision makers, and technical staff authorized technical staff.
  • Strengthen the capacity of local governments to design and implement safe and sustainable streets.

HealthBridge’s Livable Cities team has been the representative partner of GDCI to implement the road safety program in Viet Nam with the following activities:

  • Developing Global Street Design Guide Presentations
  • Building capacity on global best practices on road safety and the Global Street Design Guide for engineers, designers and consultants
  • Providing street design reviews and help with improvements for high-risk intersections and corridors
  • Providing technical assistance on low speed zones/ school zones, neighbourhood plans
  • Providing technical assistance in the redesign of high-risk areas
  • Building capacity on road safety design strategy and enforcement for traffic police
  • Building capacity on road safety design strategy for journalists
  • Developing monitoring and evaluation methodology.

Expected Results

• Increased knowledge and understanding of Global Best Practices in road safety and street design.

• Enhanced capacity of the Government technical staff for safe and sustainable street design, particularly in high-risk areas, low-speed zones, and school zones.

• Improved Street and Intersection Safety

• Strengthened Media Engagement in Road Safety
