Hue, a city of history and culture, is now making waves as one of Vietnam’s most forward-thinking urban centers. On March 26th, 2024 the city took a bold step by approving a comprehensive Bicycle Transportation Development plan for the period of 2024-2028. This decision to become a true “cycling city” positions Hue as a pioneer among Vietnamese cities.

Ms. Patricia Pena, Assistant Deputy Minister for Partnership for Development and Innovation at Global Affairs of Canada was accompanied by An Nguyen, HealthBridge Country Director to visit HealthBridge’s “Improving reproductive health and preventing child marriage” project.

This year, HealthBridge has celebrated 30 years of working in Vietnam! A celebration of this major milestone was held in Hanoi this fall and attended by up to 60 guests including government and NGO partners and donors.

The Vietnam Administration of Technical Infrastructure (ATI) under the Ministry of Construction (MOC) launched the Technical Guideline for Bicycle Infrastructure Design in Urban Areas, in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, World Resources Institute (WRI), and HealthBridge. This technical guideline is expected to help build greener, safer, and more livable cities in Vietnam.

HealthBridge worked with local partners to study how poverty, social and gender barriers and living in rural areas contribute to delays in access to, quality of and utilization of maternal and child health services in the Iringa region of Tanzania.

Debra Efroymson, Senior Advisor and Regional Director in Bangladesh gave a TEDTalk on her vision of car-free cities. In her TEDTalk, Debra walks the audience through the benefits of car-free cities, the ways in which car-free cities can be made possible, and the barriers which stand in the way.
