On 27 January 2022, HealthBridge Vietnam cooperated with Son La’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to organize the Inception workshop for the Global Affairs Canada funded project “Improving Reproductive Health & Preventing Child Marriage in Son La Province, period 2021-2025”.

Due to the COVID-19 situation in Vietnam the workshop was organized in a hybrid format, combining both online and offline participation.

The objectives of workshop were:

  1. Ensure all stakeholders clearly understand the objectives and design of the project.
  2. Ensure that the stakeholders clearly understand their own roles and are involved collaboratively in the project management and implementation processes.

The workshop was well attended by:

  • Ms. Sian FitzGerald- Executive Director of HealthBridge Foundation of Canada;
  • Ms. Sandra Le Courtois, First Secretary of Canadian Embassy in Hà Noi; and
  • Mr. Tran Dang – Khoa- Vice Director of the Maternal and Child Health Department from the Ministry of Health at the national level.

These participants delivered speeches at the workshop via the Zoom platform. Local leaders of the Department of Health, Education, Department of Foreign Affairs, representatives of teachers, medical staff from the project area also attended the workshop.

The Vice director of Son La Department of Health, Vice director of Education and Training Department, and the Director of CDC Son La attended in-person and Vice Director of Thuan Chau district hospital also attended via Zoom to show their commitment to supporting and ensuring the quality of project in Son La province.

Project “Improving Reproductive Health & Preventing Child Marriage in Son La Province, period 2021-2025” will be implemented from August 2021 to September 2025, with the financial support from Global Affairs Canada. The project is expected to reach 2600 adolescents Boys and Girls, 2500 community members including men and women; 40 health staff and 40 teachers from Chiềng Bôm, Tông Cọ, Chiềng Đen, Chiềng Ngần, Chiềng Lề and Chiềng Sinh communes, Thuan Chau district and Son La city. The project aims to improve health & gender equality and reduce the incidence of child marriage among women and adolescent girls in vulnerable communities by increasing agency of women and girls in targeted areas and increasing utilization of quality, gender-responsive and inclusive health services by adolescent girls & women of reproductive age.
